Sarasota personal injury attorney brings lifelong advocacy to statewide leadership role
Alex J. Kompothecras, managing attorney and co-founder of Alpha Law Group in Sarasota, Florida, has been named an Honorary Board Member of the Autism Society of Florida — a recognition that reflects years of personal commitment to the autism community both inside and outside the courtroom.
For Kompothecras, the appointment is anything but ceremonial. His connection to autism advocacy is rooted in family: two of his siblings are on the autism spectrum, an experience that shaped his worldview long before he ever practiced law. He has spoken openly about the way growing up alongside his siblings gave him a firsthand understanding of the challenges families face — from navigating school systems and therapies to finding community support and acceptance.
That personal foundation evolved into organized action. Kompothecras is the founder of the annual Alpha Law Group Autism 5K Run, an event that raises funds for organizations including the Autism Society of Florida and The Haven. The proceeds support programs ranging from first responder training and community education to drowning prevention — a cause of particular urgency, as drowning remains one of the leading causes of death among children with autism.
He has described his role in the community not as a distant benefactor, but as a “big brother” to individuals with autism and the families who love them — someone focused on compassion, connection, and making sure no family feels like they’re navigating the journey alone.
Advocacy runs in the family. His father, Gary Kompothecras, has been a longtime supporter of the Autism community in Florida, and Alex has spoken about continuing that legacy through both his legal career and his community work.
In his new board role, Kompothecras has said he remains committed to expanding awareness, strengthening resources, and building a more inclusive Florida for individuals on the spectrum. For a personal injury lawyer whose daily work centers on standing up for people in vulnerable moments, the mission fits naturally — it’s the same instinct applied to a different kind of fight.
