Under Florida law, if you slip on a “transitory foreign substance” (like a spilled liquid or dropped food) in a business, you must generally prove the business had actual or constructive knowledge of the dangerous condition and should have fixed it. Constructive knowledge can be shown when the hazard existed long enough that the business should have known, or when the condition happened regularly and was foreseeable. Evidence disappears fast. Photograph the hazard, your shoes, and the area. Report the fall to a manager, get witness names, and ask that surveillance video be preserved.
