For most Florida injury claims, the deadline is two years, but it depends on the claim type and when it happened. For general negligence claims, such as most car accidents, slip and falls, and dog bites, the statute of limitations was reduced from four years to two years for claims that arose on or after March 24, 2023. Claims that arose before that date generally kept the older four-year deadline. Other claim types have their own deadlines. For example, wrongful death claims are generally two years, and claims against government entities have special notice requirements. Missing the deadline can permanently bar your claim, so do not wait until the last few months to talk to a lawyer.
