Golf carts and low-speed vehicles are popular in Lakewood Ranch, on Longboat Key, and in many Sarasota-area communities, and crashes do happen. Coverage can be confusing. Golf carts are generally not required to carry PIP or liability insurance, so a homeowner’s policy, a separate golf cart policy, a community association policy, or your own UM coverage may come into play. Street-legal low-speed vehicles have registration and insurance requirements that differ from golf carts. If you are hurt, photograph the cart, get the operator’s name, and ask about any insurance that covers it.
